Turkey needs several nuclear plants to ’meet power shortage’

Turkey needs several nuclear power stations to cope with a growing shortage of electricity, the head of the Ankara Chamber of Commerce said Saturday.
Sinan Aygun said Turkey would face an "electricity crisis" starting from 2014 or 2015 due to the ongoing economic revival.
"Turkey needs to build several nuclear power plants as soon as possible," he said.
According to a recent ATO report, Turkey’s electricity demand will increase to 202 billion kWh in 2010 and 357 billion kWh by 2018.
In mid-January, Turkey and Russia signed a joint statement regarding plans to build a nuclear power plant on Turkish soil.

Iran building rail link to Iraq

Iran is building a 51-km railway linking its southwestern city of Khorramshahr and the southern Iraqi city of Basra, national media reported Saturday.
The project will improve transport links between Iraq and the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
According to Press TV, Iran has allocated $1 billion for Iraq’s reconstruction.

A report released by Reform Institute, a European think tank, says that implementing the Nabucco gas pipeline project is being postponed because of the process of normalizing Armenian-Turkish relations, Turkish news agency Cihan reports.
