U.S.-ARMENIA JOINT ECONOMIC TASKFORCE TO EXPAND

U.S. to provide $50mln aid to Armenia until 2013

On July 15, the Armenian government approved signing of an agreement with the U.S. government on provision of assistance under the Program of Competitive and Diversified Private Sector.
Armenian Minister of Economy Nerses Yeritsyan said that a $7.7mln grant will be allocated to Armenia to implement works in three directions : development of the private sector, assistance to the financial sector and improvement of infrastructures.
The program will be implemented through the assistance of USAID. It will be completed by September 30, 2013. Meanwhile, the Minister added that the program may be expanded before its completion, while the total amount of investments may reach $30mln.
Besides, Yeritsyan said that the two countries’ governments will cooperate also in the healthcare field. Specifically, the Armenian and U.S. governments will sign an agreement on provision of assistance under Enhancement of Services Efficiency in Healthcare and Social Fields. Under the program, Armenia will receive $3mln. The program may also be expanded before its completion (September 30, 2013), while the total amount of financing may reach $20mln.

Task force created to coordinate the Association Agreement talks

EU launches negotiations on Association Agreements with S. Caucasus states

The European Union is beginning talks to strengthen ties with Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia that it hopes will eventually result in formal association agreements. The first round of negotiations on Association Agreements with Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia will take place in the capitals of the three South Caucasus countries in the coming week, according to the official website of the European Union.
EU High Representative Catherine Ashton held a formal event in the Black Sea city of Batumi on July 15 to launch talks with Georgia.
Welcoming the launch of the talks, Ashton praised Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia for showing `a clear ambition to intensify their relationships with the EU.’ The Agreements are based on joint commitments to a set of shared values and will cover a wide range of areas, including political dialogue, justice, freedom and security, as well as trade and cooperation in sectoral policies.
The EU is currently negotiating similar Association Agreements with Ukraine and Moldova.

ARMENIAN-POLISH BUSINESS CONFERENCE IN YEREVAN

The Armenian-Polish business conference, organized by the Armenian Development Agency within the framework of the first joint session of the Armenian-Polish Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, was held today.
The prospects of investment and trade-economic relations between the two states were discussed during the conference.
The common economic condition, as well as the most important spheres and directions of cooperation were represented at the conference.
According to the data of the Armenian Statistical Service, last year the trade circulation between the two states made 34.7 million USD, the export made 0.7 million USD, and the import - 34 million USD.
During the first 5 months of 2010 the trade circulation increased by 6.9%, the export made 1.4 million USD, and the import- 9.3 million USD.
Armenia mainly exported rubber, aluminum, and imported perfume, paper, make up goods, etc.
As to the concrete suggestions about the spheres of cooperation, Mushegh Tumasyan mentioned about the discussions on the cooperation in the spheres of energy, construction and medical equipments, as well as arrangements with ’Nairit’ factory.

RA STATE REVENUE COMMITTEE BECAME IOTA FULL MEMBER

The Armenian Tax System in the face of the Armenian State Revenue Committee became a full member of Intra-European Organization of Tax Administrations-IOTA. The decision in this connection was taken on July 9 in Brussels.
Before the secret voting, the head of the Armenian State Revenue Committee invited their international partners to get acquainted with the large scale of reforms implemented by the SRC as well as its future actions. Gagik Khachatryan in particular underlined the importance of international cooperation in the tax field. He noted that tax administration reforms are a priority for the system.

EXPANDING OF ECONOMIC COOPERATION DISCUSSED WITH THE AMBASSADOR OF CHINA

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received Chinese ambassador to Armenia Tian Chanchun.
Ambassador Chanchun forwarded the greetings of the Chinese Prime Minister by assuring of his country’s keen interest in the furtherance of multifaceted relationship with Armenia.
With reference to the possibilities for expansion of economic cooperation and implementation of joint projects, Tigran Sargsyan and Tian Chanchun spoke about the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission and the scheduled Armenian-Chinese business forum.

ISSUES ON DEVELOPMENT OF ARMENIA’S MILITARY-INDUSTRIAL SPHERE DISCUSSED ARMENPRESS

Secretary General of the Armenian National Security Council Arthur Baghdasaryan summed up today the results of the three-day visit of the Russian delegation to Armenia during which issues on development of the military-industrial sphere in Armenia were discussed. The Russian delegation visited Armenia’s military-industrial enterprises. "We may register first positive results. It refers to the launching of concrete cooperation between Armenia and Russia in the military-industrial sphere that is - creation of joint ventures which will give an opportunity to develop the military-industrial sphere of our country," Arthur Baghdasaryan said.
Within the framework of the visit consultations were held with the participation of secretary general of the CSTO and representatives of corresponding Armenian establishments during which the steps undertaken within the framework of the organization have been discussed. "The steps initiated by the Armenian party have been implemented by 100% and we have good results, which is very important on the eve of the summit of the heads of the CSTO member states expected in Yerevan," Arthur Baghdasaryan said.
Secretary General of the CSTO Nikolay Bordyuzha said that the military-technical cooperation within the framework of the CSTO is considered a priority. "Within the framework of that cooperation we are carrying out a pilot project on active cooperation of the Armenian-Russian military-industrial enterprises. I hope that in the near future practical steps will be undertaken for creation of joint military-industrial enterprises," Nikolay Bordyuzha said.
