WHY ARE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCES STILL SO EXPENSIVE IN ARMENIA ? EXPLAINS MINISTER ALAVERDYAN

The recent rise in agriculture produces is not caused due to the wide-spread diseases in agricultural farms only, Armenia’s Agriculture Minister Gerasim Alaverdyan told a press conference today, meaning that the produces are mainly exported or cultivated in green-houses.
"We will in a few days have our own yield, and prices will go down," said he.
According to Alaverdyan the villagers are well informed as to how to fight those diseases,
FINNISH EQUIPMENT TO BE BOUGHT TO CLEAR LAKE SEVAN

The Armenian government and the Ministry of Environmental Protection allocated 30 million dram for the acquisition of a Finnish excavator to clear Sevan Lake submerge forest houses.

Each year farmers face problems with selling the grapes and displant the vineyards

About 7,000 tones of grape fruit is expected this year only from Ararat province - Armenia’s largest fruit producer province - but the point is that the farmers can’t sell the produce at the price they would like to.
Every year the farmers face problems with selling the produce and have toughest times in winter with meagre supplies.
Each year the factories that buy the grapes present to the farmers contracts that have beneficial terms only for the factory and they thrust upon the farmers the price they prefer, while the farmers unwillingly enough sign those contracts as they have no other choice.
He also mentioned that recently Ararat Congnac Factory informed all its contractors that it will by 30% reduce the quantity of grapes to be bought from each farmer this year.
`There are rumors that the storage price for grape will this year drop down to 50 AMD per kilogram. The farmers come and complain to the head of the village administration. But what can he do ?
Tigran Sargsyan receives head of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Armenia programs Henning Pedersen

On July 16, the RA government hosted a meeting with the participation of Head of UN International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Programs in Armenia Henning Pedersen, the Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan and representative of the Ministry agriculture and the Ministry of Finance. The parties voiced desired volumes of agricultural products sale - $250mln per year.
The goal of the IFAD, as one of the UN specialized agencies, is to promote overcoming the poverty in rural areas.
During the meeting Henning Pedersen presented the IFAD `Creation of Rural Abilities Program’ and timeframe of the further steps for the approval of the program. He noted that the program consists of two main elements - `Assistance to the Fruit and Walnut Production’ and `Rural Infrastructures’.
Within the first element it is intended to promote the production of fruit and walnut and development of contract gardening, within the second element works on restoration of public infrastructures will be implemented.
Commenting on basic problems of agricultural development in Armenia, Henning Pedersen pointed to the underdevelopment of infrastructures, lack of marketing services and funds, non-compliance with standards and quality norms, as well as non-usage of modern technologies for the achievement of best results.
Over $50mln will be invested for implementation of the Program on Creation of Agricultural Opportunities in Armenia in 2011-2015.
Armenian Fruit JSC to be established in Armenia

Armenian Fruit JSC will be established in Armenia as part of the program implementation. The state will be the owner of 100% shares of the company.
This is a pilot project with usage of modern technologies and international standards. The program is a prototype of voluntary cooperatives but the participation of the private sector in the company may be considered in future.
Based on results of the program implementation, a new industry will be established in Armenia, to satisfy the in demand in Russia, the CIS and European markets,"
For several years, Armenian Fruit will be dealing with all issues related to creation of agricultural opportunities, including export logistics, marketing, etc.
TWO NEW RESERVES ARE EXPECTED TO BE CREATED IN ARMENIA -
"GNISHIK" AND "KHUSTOP"

"Gnishik" reserve will be located in the Vayots Dzor and "Khustop" in Syunik province.
Director of the Armenian office of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) told that the offer of creating the reserve was forwarded by the WWF and will be carried out by the Armenian Nature Protection Ministry and UN Armenia office.
