2.000 PEOPLE BECAME RA CITIZENS

In January-September 2009, 158.882 Armenian citizenship passports were issued. 2.487 citizens were registered based on place of residence and 2.260 people gained RA citizenship, whereas 227 foreigners were given resident status, RA Police informed NEWS.am. Under RA Presidential decrees 3.514 people were admitted to RA citizenship (in Jan.-Sep., 2008 — 688 people) and 255 gave up their citizenship.

The newspaper recalls ancient Armenian city in this frames as a result of recent Iranian-Turkish initiative on joint project to build an international free industry and commerce zone.

NEW CHAIRMAN OF UNION OF BANKS OF ARMENIA ELECTED

Ararat Ghukasyan was elected a new chairman of the Union of Banks of Armenia (UBA), who served as executive director of "Converse Bank. He will replace Emile Soghomonyan, chairman of the board of Prometheus Bank, who headed UBA since August 2007.

ARMENIA READY TO DEVELOP COOPERATION WITH NATO

National Assembly Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan has today received Robert Simmonms, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the South Caucasus.
Welcoming the guest, Armenian Parliament Speaker attached importance to Armenia-NATO cooperation and reiterated Armenia’s willingness to develop cooperation. Parties agreed that such cooperation should be transparent and accessible to public. In that context, they considered RA NA initiatives within NATO General Assembly’s format, as well as current reforms in the sphere of establishing civil control over Armenia’s armed forces.
Parties also touched upon regional security issues, RA NA press service reports.

VERBAL CONTRACT INTRODUCED IN ARMENIA’S LABOUR CODE

During its session today, the Republic of Armenia government approved the package of draft laws on making amendments to the Republic of Armenia Labour Code, Republic of Armenia Code on Administrative Violations, Republic of Armenia Law on State Labour Inspectorate, and the Law on repealing the Law on Employment Remuneration. The decision was elaborated and made, taking into consideration the necessity to settle separate issues which emerged in the practice of implanting laws after the RA Labour Code was put into force.
As announced by the Republic of Armenia government’s press and public relations department, the proposed amendments to the Code aim to simplify and specify the regulation of work relationships and to bring them in line with international agreements : requirements from the separate clauses stipulated by the Republic of Armenia Constitution, ILO Conventions and the Revised European Social Charter. Planned as well are new mechanisms for notification on employment contract termination, severance pay, payment if changing to another post with the same employer, regulation of remuneration during probation period, as well as to introducing the practice of the verbal contract.
The draft law package will be submitted to the Republic of Armenia National Assembly as prescribed by law.

LAKE SEVAN LEVEL TO BE RAISED UP TO 1905 METERS BY 2032

The level of Lake Sevan will be raised up to 1905 meters by 2032, said Vladimir Movsisyan, chairman of the committee on Lake Sevan problems.
"According to the plan, the lake will be 1903.5 meters above sea level against the current 1899.3 meters. With raising, the lake will inundate 1697 constructions, 35 substations, 15 km of roads and 7 km of water supply system," he said.
