5TH CONFERENCE "FRUITFUL ARMENIA" HELD IN YEREVAN ON NOVEMBER 23-24

The 5th conference "Fruitful Armenia" is being held in Yerevan on November 23-24. Welcoming the participants and calling the conference a significant and symbolic event, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said :
"Out fifth jubilee meeting bears evidence of the fact that the Fruitful Armenia conferences are successful. The fifth meeting is dedicated to talented youth who have much to say. We attach great importance to the idea of recent innovations in the agricultural sector, which will help promote our gifted youth - based on international experience. We are prepared to assist with your work as we need fresh ideas".

MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE INVESTIGATES WHETHER BORDER OPENING CARRIES ANY RISKS

As part of investigations in agricultural sector before opening the Armenian-Turkish border, Armenia’s Ministry of Agriculture studied whether there is a risk or which of them will appear if the border opens.
"We’ve studied 46 major food goods in Turkey, and compared the process. There is nothing to be afraid of as prices in Turkey are higher than in Armenia. Just 6 or 7 pieces have lower prices in Turkey than in Armenia," told journalists Deputy Minister of Armenia’s Minister of Agriculture, Samvel Avetisyan.
Turkish government greatly supports local farmers and besides does not comply with the rules of the World Trade Organization, according to Samvel Avetisyan.

FOODSTUFFS REGISTER PRICE RISE IN ARMENIA

Armenian foodstuffs (sugar, oils, vegetables, fish products and fruits)registered 2-13% price rise this November compared to October, 2009.
According to RA National Statistical Service, in November 2009 compared to last month fruits’ prices increased for 13.5%, in particular Yerevan registered 18.6% upsurge, for vegetables and potatoes — 8.4% (average 9%), whereas oil - 2.8% and butter - 6.4%. In November 2009, compared to December 2008 price for sugar raised for 33.6%. In comparison with last month, meat boosted for 0.7%, particularly lamb — jumped for 16.4%.
Soft drinks, dairy products, coffee, tea, cacao and pastry recorded 0.1-0.6% price rise this November compared to October same year, Business24 reports.
